From what you describe, you're best to entirely remove the antenna assembly from the car, and take it apart. You most likely have some broken plastic whip pieces inside the clutch assembly that need to be removed. Its a fairly easy DIYer job to dismantle the unit once its out of the car, clean and regrease it, install the new mast and test it. I suggest testing it before reinstalling back into the car. Easy to do by placing the repaired unit inside the trunk with the mast aimed out the open hatch. Plug the connector back in and have someone turn on the radio. If all works as it should, reinstall it. Good Luck!
